The Barclays site offers only the option to trade On-Line and so financial information must be gained from somewhere else. Barclays trading is not done via a nominee account and so it is you who receives the actual shares and not the broker. Registration is also possible On-Line and is relatively simple and is free to do with no annual charges. Commission on deals is 1% with £11.99 being the minimum and £39.99 the maximum commission charges. trading is really easy on this site and Barclays boast a new system which allows them to offer you a better price than many other brokers. Trading is limited to the London Stock Exchange.
E-TRADE This site offers 3 free trades (i.e. no commission) and is a very clear and friendly site. Registration is done entirely on-line and quotes, information, news, corporate information and portfolio tracking is all offered as well as a good help facility. Basic membership allows limited use of the facilities, access to the free share price quotes (20 minute delay) and also allows you to trade . However if you subscribe to the more advanced services you can trade in real-time, research for free and much more. For beginners there is also a test drive facility, which allows you to simulate your first on-line trade in 6 easy steps. also the site is good for beginners as the first 3 trades are commission free. After that they are £14.95 on any trade up to £1,500 and £24.95 on any trade above £1,500.
A new colourful and fresh site, very easy to use. This site is aimed at private investors and is particularly good for beginners. This site's resources include: On-Line Brochures and guides, On-Line Dealing, recommendations and estimates, virtual portfolio tracking and E-Mail or Mobile Phone alerts, all on the one site!!!! Charles Schwab offer 30 day commission free trading when you open a new account. this is a bonus but after this the minimum commission charge is £15.00 and the maximum £61.25 and the annual charges are £20. Charles Schwab offers two types of account one for infrequent and one for more frequent investors. Charles Schwab also offer the ability to invest in the American markets. The registration process takes a long time however and involves filling out forms On-Line and sending hard copies back or requesting hard copies. Then before you start trading the funds need to be supplied into a nominee account.
The ICON site is also clear and quick. The site is designed for dealing on the LSE and boasts over 2,000 UK quoted shares. The cost of registration is £25 a year and every deal takes a flat rate commission of £20 whether the deal is very large or very small. The registration involves filling out forms On-Line and sending hard copies back or requesting hard copies, also the funds need to be supplied into a nominee account before trading can take place. However a manual explaining how to trade and the working and features of the site and how to use them is sent out when the forms have been received and a unique pin number to use when trading, is supplied when the funds are received. the prices are updated in real-time and you can watch your current portfolio as well as shares which you have decided to watch. Price limits are also available, which is useful if your chosen share price is fluctuating.
EXECUTION ONLY ELECTRONIC SHARE TRADING This site offers graphing for prices with a 5 year history. It has an A-Z index for stock prices (20 minute delay) an archive search facility and of course: execution only trading. Registration is required for most services and trading and this costs £20. STOCKTRADE This site boasts that is the UK's first live On-Line broker! They offer the usual services; graphical data, brokers reports, company accounts etc. Registration involves printing out a registration form completed on-line and sending it to them. Membership is charged annually at £25 and any deal up to £1,250 incurs a £25 commission fee.
